Hines Parkway/Rouge River Gateway Greenway

Hines Parkway/Rouge River Gateway Greenway runs alongside the Middle Rouge River. It stretches 17 miles from downtown Dearborn to Northville. The trail is considered a recreational gem. Also, there are several places where runners can stop and start. Along the way, they’ll see old mills used by Henry Ford to manufacture parts for the Ford Motor Company.

Island Lake State Recreation Area

The Island Lake State Recreation Area is a 4,000-acre park that provides an “up north” feel in southeast Michigan. The terrain varies from open brush land to mature hardwood forest. More than 18 miles of trails meander through the different habitats. The paths are perfect for those training for a long distance run, and the yellow loop circles the Huron River.

Near one of the country’s busiest inland waterways, Belle Isle Park is accessible by a bridge at the foot of East Grand Boulevard. The park spans 982 acres. Also, it offers miles of trails and paths with views of freighters and sailboats. The park is home to a zoo, an aquarium, and a conservatory, too.
