Explore the Detroit Riverfront’s Parks and Attractions

Explore the parks and attractions along the Detroit Riverfront!

Just twenty minutes from Fairlane Woods Apartments is a destination that welcomes approximately three million visitors every year. It’s called the Detroit Riverfront, and this oasis offers much to see and do. Spend the weekend exploring each of the parks along the river. Highlights include:

Chene Park

Voted one of the “Top 100 Venues in the World,” Chene Park features a five-thousand-seat amphitheater. It’s one-of-a-kind because it sits along an international waterway. It welcomes an array of artists every year, and past performers include Stevie Wonder, George Clinton, and Robin Thicke. Grab VIP tickets to enjoy buffet culinary delights and early access to your seats.

Gabriel Richard Park

The Gabriel Richard Park is a riverfront gem. It has beautiful landscaping, butterfly gardens, and a contemplative labyrinth. It also features a new birding station complete with four wildlife spotting scopes. An interpretive panel also identifies the birds found along the riverfront.

DNR Outdoor Adventure Center

Found inside the Globe Building, the DNR Outdoor Adventure Center is one of the most recognizable attractions along the east riverfront. Visitors can learn about Michigan’s outdoor recreational opportunities. More than 100,000 people walk through the doors every year. Exhibits include Underwater MichiganOvernight Lodging, and Sand Dunes.

Milliken State Park and Harbor

Spanning thirty-one acres, the Milliken State Park was the first urban park in Michigan. It features picnic areas, shoreline fishing, and interpretive panels that tells how the wetland naturally cleans the water before returning it to the Detroit River as clean water. There is also a harbor and a statue of Peter Stroh, a conservationist who was an advocate for opening Detroit’s waterfront to the public.
