Dearborn and the surrounding area is home to fantastic museums that you can now enjoy online! Here are a few favorites near our Dearborn apartments.

Ford Piquette Avenue Plant

Dearborn is home to Ford Motor Company and has various exhibits that are centered around automobiles. These include Henry Ford Museum and Ford Piquette Avenue Plant.

The Ford Piquette Avenue Plant was where Henry Ford built the first Model T. The building is now a museum and is providing virtual tours of the plant.  Some interesting facts about the Model T:

  • Before the Model T there was also the Model B, C, F, K, N, R and S.
  • The Model T was developed and introduced in 1908.  The first model year was a 1909 model. 
  • 12,000 Model Ts were assembled at this plant.  

Michigan Science Center

The Michigan Science Center is a museum located at 5020 John R St in Detroit, MI. Their mission is to inspire people of all ages to discover and explore science and technology. Currently, they have virtual exhibits about space, how forces act on an airplane, explanations of how to sail into the wind, and hands-on activities to engage you in inventing.

Dossin Great Lakes Museum

The Dossin Great Lakes Museum, located on Belle Isle in Detroit, is offering virtual resources during this time. The museum is centered on the story of the Great Lakes and the Detroit River, especially the involvement of regional and national boats and freighters. Check out their website and online resources.

Cranbrook Art Museum

Cranbrook Art Museum offers a 3D virtual tour of their museum. Built in Bloomfield Hills, MI in 1904, the museum is part of the Cranbrook Educational Community. The museum is considered one of the first contemporary art museums in America.
